MIND is an organisation that supports people with mental health problems, although 1 in 4 people have it, many don’t get the help they need. Mind helps people fight mental health and all the reasons as to why, such as financial worries, discrimination, bullying or simply being alone in a tractor all day, for example. Someone who has experienced this first hand is a farmer called Olly Harrison, who lost one of his closest friends, due to suicide over the worries behind farming.
Olly Harrison (Olly Blogs on Youtube), drove a Claas Lexion 8700 combine harvester from John O’Groats to Lands End on the 4th to the 8th June to raise awareness for the mental health charity MIND. it was a 875- mile route, with people supporting the charity the whole distance. Olly told Farmers Weekly: “ Poor mental health is a massive problem among farmers and people across the county. Losing my friend has changed my outlook on life and i really want to do more about it.” he would like people to #answerasapercentage when asked how they are feeling. “It’s the biggest lie in the world to say, “i’m fine”, when you’re not. But if you say, “i’m only 60% today”, that gets people talking’” he explained.
